About Baruti KMT-Sisouvong, PhD

Baruti KMT-Sisouvong, PhD, is a scholar, teacher, writer, and builder whose work explores consciousness, human development, education, and the conditions that support individual and collective flourishing.

His intellectual journey began long before his formal academic training. Drawn from an early age to questions concerning meaning, identity, human potential, and the deeper structures shaping experience, he pursued studies in History and Sociology at Georgia State University. These disciplines provided valuable tools for understanding societies, cultures, institutions, and historical change, while also deepening his inquiry into what lies beneath the visible structures that shape human life.

He later completed two and a half years of graduate coursework in Sociology, further developing his interest in social structures, human behaviour, identity, institutions, and the dynamics of change.

In 1993, Baruti experienced what he would later come to understand as Pure Consciousness during a period of personal meditation practice. Although he lacked the language and frameworks to fully interpret the experience at the time, it planted a seed that would continue to influence his life and scholarship for decades.

In April 2008, he learned Transcendental Meditation in Fairfield, Iowa. The experience marked the beginning of a more systematic exploration of consciousness and its relationship to human development. Several years later, he and his wife, Mina KMT-Sisouvong, completed the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course and assumed responsibility for the Cambridge and Metropolitan Boston Transcendental Meditation programme. Since 2013, they have helped thousands of individuals learn the practice and establish sustainable meditation routines within their daily lives.

Alongside his teaching work, Baruti pursued advanced academic study through Maharishi International University, completing a master’s degree in Vedic Science — Consciousness and Human Potential, and later earning his PhD in Vedic Science. His doctoral research examined mystical experience among Freemasons and led to the development of the Model for Perpetual Growth and Progress, a developmental framework describing how individuals cultivate mastery through seeking, learning, refinement, service, and sustained practice.

His scholarship increasingly bridges multiple domains, including consciousness studies, contemplative practice, education, leadership, human development, civic transformation, artificial intelligence, and emerging futures. Through this work, he seeks to explore how deeper understandings of consciousness may inform the challenges and opportunities facing individuals and societies alike.

Today, Baruti’s work spans public scholarship, teaching, writing, research, speaking, and institution-building. Through platforms such as On Transcendence, Radical Scholar, Transcendental Brain, and the International Meditation Hour, he continues to investigate the relationship between consciousness and human flourishing while developing practical frameworks capable of supporting personal and societal transformation.

Mission

Deepening the understanding of consciousness and human potential

My work seeks to deepen our understanding of consciousness and its role in human development, education, leadership, and societal transformation.

Through scholarship, teaching, writing, and institution-building, I explore how individuals and communities may cultivate greater coherence, wisdom, resilience, and flourishing. My aim is not merely to understand human potential, but to help create conditions in which that potential can be more fully realised.

I believe that many of humanity’s most persistent challenges cannot be addressed solely at the level of outcomes. Rather, they invite us to examine the deeper layers of consciousness, assumptions, systems, and developmental processes from which outcomes emerge.

My work is dedicated to that exploration.
